David Shaw, of Acresfield Road, Newton, was playing at a weir in Haughton Green on 8 June 2006 when he disappeared under the water and failed to resurface.
His parents Andrea Sayers and Austin Shaw said: "We wouldn't want anyone to go through what we have gone through. We urge parents to warn their children of the dangers of playing near water. David was an intelligent boy and if it could happen to him it could happen to anyone"

"The whole family have been left devastated by what has happened."
