David Shaw, of Acresfield Road, Newton, was playing at a weir in Haughton Green on 8 June 2006 when
he disappeared under the water and failed to resurface.
His parents Andrea Sayers and Austin Shaw said: "We wouldn't want anyone to go through what we have
gone through. We urge parents to warn their children of the dangers of playing near water. David was
an intelligent boy and if it could happen to him it could happen to anyone"
.
"The whole family have been left devastated by what has happened."

to leave my love xxxxxxxx
So sorry for your loss. My son died last December. When he was young I taught him to swim, I taught him to ride his bike safely, I taught him to use the phone in an emergency and never to go off with strangers. I was trying to keep him safe like any parent but he was struck down with an aggresive cancer and died in just over a week. I couldn't protect him that week. Some things are just out of our hands and this world throws some awful situations at us. My heart goes out to you and your family and I hope you find strength in David's memory like I do with my son. love from a grieving Mum XXX
